The waves here are consistent and high quality, driven by deep-sea swells that reach this stretch of coastline unobstructed. The soft sandy bottom offers accessible conditions for beginners and intermediate surfers alike. Several schools offer lessons directly from the beach, starting from age 6.

The sunsets here are spectacular — the sky takes on orange and pink hues over the Atlantic, and the silhouette of the pine trees in the background creates natural masterpieces you'll never tire of. Equipment rental, snacks, showers: everything is there.

Tip: In July and August, arrive early in the morning or come by bike — the parking lot fills up by 10:30 AM. From Villa Madeleine, the beach is less than 10 minutes away by bike via the cycle paths.

A few hundred meters north of Le Penon, Les Casernes offers a different atmosphere. Fewer shops, fewer people, more dunes, more space. It’s the beach for those in the know — those who know you can still find almost deserted spots of sand here even in peak season.

The dunes are well-preserved, bordered by typical Landes coastal vegetation: marram grass, everlastings, and sea junipers. The setting is raw, almost mineral. The waves can be more powerful than at Le Penon depending on conditions — making it more of a spot for advanced surfers.

Ideal for a walk at the end of the day, a photo session at sunset, or simply settling down far from the summer bustle. Minimal infrastructure: come prepared and enjoy the silence.

Seignosse has preserved what so many other seaside resorts have lost: space, silence, and the scent of pines mixed with the Atlantic salt air.

La Centrale

The name says it all. La Centrale is the playground for surfers who know the whims of the Atlantic in Seignosse. It often catches beautiful swells and offers a quality beach break, with longer and more hollow waves than other beaches in the area.

This isn't a beach for absolute beginners — currents can be strong, and the waves impressive during big autumn swells. But for intermediate to advanced surfers, it's a generous terrain that rewards those who know how to read the ocean.

Access is slightly less direct than at Le Penon, which naturally filters out the tourist crowds. A great option for surfing in good conditions without finding yourself in a packed line-up.

Between Seignosse and Hossegor

Les Estagnots

Straddling the towns of Seignosse and Hossegor, Les Estagnots deserves a special mention. This is where a world surfing championship stage takes place every autumn — proof of the spot's exceptional quality.

Les Estagnots is renowned for producing some of the best waves in France, with powerful barrels sometimes compared to Hawaiian spots during big swells. In summer, conditions are milder, allowing surfers of all levels to enjoy it.

The beach is large and well-equipped — restaurants, rentals, showers, parking — with a very strong surf culture vibe. Ideal for watching the best local surfers or enjoying a lunch break with a view of the ocean.

Tip: Les Estagnots is about 15 minutes by bike from Villa Madeleine via wooded cycle paths — with a possible stop at the Hossegor market on your way back.
