Golden sand, blue-green Atlantic, pine trees stretching to the edge of the dunes… The beaches of Seignosse Océan are among the most beautiful and wild in the entire Landes coastline. Less crowded than Hossegor in August, less urbanized than Capbreton, they have managed to preserve a rare sense of authenticity.

Whether you're a surfer looking for a perfect left at sunrise, a family with children, a couple seeking tranquility, or a group of friends ready for back-to-back sessions — Seignosse has a beach for you. This guide takes you on a journey to discover each of them.

01
The Iconic Beach

Le Penon Beach

This is the beach in Seignosse. Le Penon is the beating heart of the resort, the natural meeting point for everyone staying nearby. Vast, well-exposed, and supervised during the season, it beautifully blends a surf vibe with family-friendly hospitality.

The waves here are consistent and high quality, driven by deep-sea swells that reach this stretch of coastline unobstructed. The soft sandy bottom offers accessible conditions for beginners and intermediate surfers alike. Several schools offer lessons directly from the beach, starting from age 6.

The sunsets here are spectacular — the sky takes on orange and pink hues over the Atlantic, and the silhouette of the pine trees in the background creates natural masterpieces you'll never tire of. Equipment rental, snacks, showers: everything is there.

Tip: In July and August, arrive early in the morning or come by bike — the parking lot fills up by 10:30 AM. From Villa Madeleine, the beach is less than 10 minutes away by bike via the cycle paths.
02
The Wild Beach

Les Casernes

A few hundred meters north of Le Penon, Les Casernes offers a different atmosphere. Fewer shops, fewer people, more dunes, more space. It’s the beach for those in the know — those who know you can still find almost deserted spots of sand here even in peak season.

The dunes are well-preserved, bordered by typical Landes coastal vegetation: marram grass, everlastings, and sea junipers. The setting is raw, almost mineral. The waves can be more powerful than at Le Penon depending on conditions — making it more of a spot for advanced surfers.

Ideal for a walk at the end of the day, a photo session at sunset, or simply settling down far from the summer bustle. Minimal infrastructure: come prepared and enjoy the silence.

Seignosse has preserved what so many other seaside resorts have lost: space, silence, and the scent of pines mixed with the Atlantic salt air.
03
The Locals' Spot

La Centrale

The name says it all. La Centrale is the playground for surfers who know the whims of the Atlantic in Seignosse. It often catches beautiful swells and offers a quality beach break, with longer and more hollow waves than other beaches in the area.

This isn't a beach for absolute beginners — currents can be strong, and the waves impressive during big autumn swells. But for intermediate to advanced surfers, it's a generous terrain that rewards those who know how to read the ocean.

Access is slightly less direct than at Le Penon, which naturally filters out the tourist crowds. A great option for surfing in good conditions without finding yourself in a packed line-up.

04
Between Seignosse and Hossegor

Les Estagnots

Straddling the towns of Seignosse and Hossegor, Les Estagnots deserves a special mention. This is where a world surfing championship stage takes place every autumn — proof of the spot's exceptional quality.

Les Estagnots is renowned for producing some of the best waves in France, with powerful barrels sometimes compared to Hawaiian spots during big swells. In summer, conditions are milder, allowing surfers of all levels to enjoy it.

The beach is large and well-equipped — restaurants, rentals, showers, parking — with a very strong surf culture vibe. Ideal for watching the best local surfers or enjoying a lunch break with a view of the ocean.

Tip: Les Estagnots is about 15 minutes by bike from Villa Madeleine via wooded cycle paths — with a possible stop at the Hossegor market on your way back.

Seignosse Beaches for Families

Seignosse is an excellent family destination, provided you choose the right beach for everyone's age and interests. The golden rule on all Landes beaches: respect the swimming flags. "Baïne" currents — those channels where water pulls back toward the open sea — can surprise even strong swimmers.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are Seignosse beaches supervised?
The main beaches of Seignosse Océan — particularly Le Penon — are supervised by lifeguards during the summer season, generally from late June to early September. Outside of these times and dates, swimming is at your own risk: always follow the warning flags.
Can beginners surf in Seignosse?
Absolutely. Le Penon beach is home to several surf schools offering beginner lessons from age 6. In summer, conditions are generally gentle and perfectly suited for learning. Certified instructors provide all the equipment and teach you the basics safely.
What are the differences between Seignosse and Hossegor beaches?
Hossegor's beaches — especially Les Estagnots and La Gravière — are world-famous for their powerful, tubular waves, mostly for advanced surfers. Seignosse's beaches offer more varied and accessible conditions, with generally quieter crowds. Both are minutes apart, allowing you to enjoy the best of both worlds.
How to get around the beaches without a car?
Seignosse is ideally designed for cycling. A network of cycle paths runs through the town and connects beaches, markets, and shops in just a few minutes. Most well-located accommodations allow you to reach Le Penon or Les Casernes in under 10 minutes by bike.
Is parking easy near the beaches?
In peak season (July-August), parking can be difficult near Le Penon beach, especially after 10:30 AM. We highly recommend coming by bike or parking a bit further away and walking. In June, September, and non-peak weekends, parking is usually easy and free.
